One of the first things a girl going through puberty might notice is that her body is changing quickly. Girls can develop wider hips, slimmer waists, and taller stature, and their hands, arms, feet, and legs may grow faster than the rest of their body, which can make them feel awkward. The body will eventually catch up. Growing a lot in a short period of time is called a growth spurt; some girls have a growth spurt early in puberty, while others have it later.
The rate of the growth spurt will probably decrease when a girl has her first period.
In the middle of her growth spurt, her breasts will begin to grow. Girls first develop, “breast buds,” or a small lump under the nipple and the surrounding area called the areola. It is not unusual for one breast to begin to grow before the other.
Breast buds can hurt a little at first, but the discomfort goes away after the breasts start to grow.
Girls might have white or yellow-colored vaginal discharge in their panties every day, which is the vagina cleaning itself.
