Girls should ask an adult or an older girl who knows how to shave to help guide them.

Prepare to Shave:

Exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub or a warm shower to remove dead skin and help prevent ingrown hair.

Trim long hair first in the armpits or on the legs with scissors or a trimmer to prevent ingrown hairs and make shaving easier.

Use a sharp razor to prevent ingrown hairs and skin irritation, and change razors frequently.

Shaving Steps:

Shave in the direction the hair grows.

Shave in small areas at a time to prevent missing spots.

Shave with light pressure and light strokes. Press harder if necessary, but avoid doing so too hard.

Shave in a pattern, such as in the direction of hair growth and then back in the opposite direction.

Safety

:

You can use shaving cream or gel.

Try not to shave the same area too many times, as it can cause skin irritation. If you need to shave the same area several times, use a new razor or change the blade.

Use caution with sensitive areas such as the armpits, groin, and knees.

If you can, avoid shaving when your skin is irritated and wait until it heals.

Use an after-shave or lotion to moisturize the skin.

Shave only when you need to, and don’t shave too often.

You can use a razor with a built-in moisturizer.

Use waxing or sugaring if you have frequent sore skin or ingrown hairs.

Remember: don’t use dull razors; you could accidentally cut your skin, and a dull blade may irritate it.
